About FireHireMap
I'm a career firefighter working 48-hour shifts. I built FireHireMap because the information candidates need most (where to test, what it costs, what their state actually requires) is buried in city PDFs and agency pages.

Who's behind this
It took me two to three years of struggling to get hired. I kept going in circles trying to figure out where and how to test for different departments, what education I needed, and whether I was even doing the right things.
The biggest hurdle wasn't the work. It was figuring out which department required what, and how to get those things. For a long time I honestly felt like I'd never land a job as a firefighter.
Here's what I'd tell a friend: it's very possible. When you know what to do, and where and how to do it, your chances of getting hired go up dramatically. That's what this site is for.
Every guide here is written or reviewed by me and checked against the official source it links to.
I don't name my department here. Nothing on this site speaks for any department, union or agency, and it isn't endorsed by one.
How we keep it accurate
Every fee and requirement links to the official page it came from, and pages show when they were last checked. State guides stay out of search results until we've verified them against official sources. If you find something out of date, email us and we'll fix it.
How we make money
Through ads and paid featured listings, which are always labeled. Payment never changes what a listing says.
